A little over a month ago, @sean_eric_martin & @alvinescajeda took on @badlandscc; a self-supported ultracycling gravel race in Spain. The boys raced the 780km, 15,000m route in 90 hours as a pairs team, coming in 11th overall. Now that the dust has settled, here are their thoughts on the event. Sean - “There’s nothing like sleeping in tinfoil sack only to be awakened by the sound of fellow rider’s cassettes passing by to get you up & racing. Badlands brought the ruckus & we brought the stoke. Surrounded by new & old friends, sharing in the suffering & beauty of the road & exchanging stories of dry bocadillo, all mixed in with riding every type of parcour the Andalusia region of Spain has to offer will forever be with me. Ultras are what I dream of now, & where I want my bike racing to go. I can’t wait for the next one!” Alvin - "We slept in a ditch next to the road, got chased by dogs & rode into the night until the tunnel vision made you sick. It was everything I expected from an Ultra-Race of this caliber & more. Those 90 hours of riding encompassed so much of what I love about cycling: long days on the bike, camaraderie, exploring new roads & all the food and beers. Racing Badlands was easily one of the coolest things I've ever done on a bike. The villages, the deserts, the oceans & the big mountain passes are forever ingrained in my memory.
