What a year it has been! it is unbelievable in my limited mind to think that I uprooted my life in Texas and moved halfway across the United States to New York in September. here are a few things that I’ve learned in my past year in New York: - that bacon egg and cheeses are worth the hype - never say no to going to the beach because it is so close - that 40s is not cold - that rain is always in the forecast - that tex-mex with a crisp dr. pepper is a blessing - that my minimal accent gets to everyone and my twang comes out when I’m tired - that Christianity is not a culture here - that Christian community is vital and limited The list goes on and on but the biggest thing the Lord has taught me here is my dependence on Him. In the midst of not knowing any Christians here and feeling very discouraged, the Lord brought great community into my life. February was a month full of new friendships and connections. My friendships with such community flourished rather rapidly and I do not know if I would be thriving as much as I am without them. These friends of mine are a great answered prayer and I could not be more thankful for the role they have played in my life. The church is vital. Amidst a busy travel schedule for bowling, the church sustained me and it became even clearer as I left bible-belt Texas the need for the church. I urge my Dallas friends, to cherish your Christian community because it is not everywhere. As well as do not forsake the gathering in your local body because it is vital to the Christian walk. Coming home to Dallas over Christmas felt so easy because I did not have much here in New York. Now my heart is torn to leave New York for the summer despite my love for my Dallas friends. These friends of mine have become family, and four months of not seeing them feels like forever. The distance though will sweeten the return. I am beyond thankful for this year and all that the Lord has done and taught me. Thank you to the greatest of friends who love Christ and love people so well! Remember savor every moment and reflect because time is fleeting! Until September, so long New York!
