Following the success of New York New York last year – an ode to Marie Tomanova’s adopted city – the Czech photographer’s new book centres on the shifting notion of home from the perspective of an expat. The images in It Was Once My Universe were created during the photographer’s first visit back to Mikulov, the border town in the South Moravia region where she was born, after 8 years away. The book follows a period of emotional turmoil, as she grapples with themes of belonging, identity and sense of place.
