Why the hell am I get bloated eating VEGETABLES?! 🤬 “My gut is literally broken.” These were my exact thoughts as I was laying flat on the couch, feeling frustrated at another day gone to waste because I felt too bloated & uncomfortable to move. “This shouldn’t be happening.” I had spent countless hours googling online, looking for the best “gut healing” foods that would fix my symptoms. I ran to the grocery store that day, excited to start preparing the meals that were going to give me that sweet digestive relief I had been looking for. So I’m sure you could imagine how defeated I felt, after feeling 10x WORSE that night. What the hell??? What I didn’t realize at the time, is that a lot of those “gut healthy foods” weren’t the best for my gut at that time. You see, what I later found out was that I actually had something called gut dysbiosis. This is essentially where you don’t have enough good bacteria, and an overgrowth of bad bacteria. I also didn’t realize that it was these bacteria that were responsible for breaking down these fiber-rich foods, and because I didn’t have enough of the good guys, the bad guys were going to town on these foods, creating tons of excess GAS as a by-product. So how did I fix it? I had to go through a 3 month gut healing protocol, where I took specific probiotics + herbal antimicrobials to bring down the unwanted overgrowths... Then I had to go through a systematic process for reintroducing certain fibers that would feed and strengthen my good bacteria. In a sense, I had to pull the weeds from my “gut garden”, then reseed that garden with new beneficial plants.
