As a parent, you're constantly saying "give your sister a turn." But what if there was a way to equip kids with the tools they need to solve problems on their own? ⁣ ⁣ Remember that sharing is a developmental milestone and toddlers will learn to share, typically closer to 3.5 years of age. ⁣ ⁣ But in the meantime, when you find yourself in a situation where your toddler refuses to share, there are a few things you can do: ⁣ ⁣ ✔️PAUSE and think about what you're going to say. ⁣ ⁣ ✔️NARRATE what's happening in a neutral tone of voice. For example, you might say "Molly is reading a book. Jack grabbed it from her." ⁣ ⁣ ✔️OK the feelings: This will help your toddler feel seen and understood and help them be receptive for the next step). ⁣ ⁣ ✔️TEACH mediation skills. Even at a young age, toddlers can learn how to resolve conflict more peacefully. By teaching these skills, you'll be setting your child up for success in the future.⁣ “You both want to play with the same toy.”⁣ “How do you think you can solve that problem?”⁣ ⁣ Sit back and let your kids figure out a solution. ⁣ They can learn mediation skills, even at a very young age. ⁣ ⁣ 💟 TIP: you may need to give a little input initially. ⁣ ⁣ 🤸‍♂️When I was in medical school, I used acronyms to remember details when I was too stressed to think straight. I recommend using the acronym E.A.S.Y. to help you tame those tantrums without losing your cool. I’ve created a FREE audio lesson to share this approach.
