The video for Faded Like a Feeling came out last week, and I had shared some BTS photos, so I thought I’d share insights into how we made it.. A week before I was scheduled to fly to Vancouver to shoot/direct two videos (one for @teganandsara and one for @arkellsmusic - with a T&S feature), I got a message from T&S’s manager, which said: “would you be open to doing a 3rd video?” She shared the track for Faded Like a Feeling with me said they were looking for something simple, like the Yellow video we did. I said that three videos in two days is a lot, but we could give it a shot. I listened to the track and for some reason I thought of a swing set right away. Maybe it was the hypnotic back and forth vibes of the track... So I sent @cstauder back this note right away: “Simple simple simple concept. But potentially cool and iconic in hindsight. It all takes place on a swing at a playground. Tegan is swinging singing the song (slow and moody) - from a couple angles. When Sara enters it's a seamless transition (tegan swings out of frame, Sara swings in). And they could both be on the swing side by side (I'm not sure who sings which part yet). We end on a shot of them on the swing set, and they fade away, leaving the swings swaying on their own” 20 minutes later she wrote: “they both love it!” I was stoked, but also was like, uh oh. Now I have to execute this :) I started researching by looking for videos/movies that had people on swings for visual inspiration. I found a photo of @vancityreynolds on a swing (from Free Guy) so I shared it in the chat. He commented on our last video Yellow, so it felt only right to have him onboard (if only as a reference photo) for this one... After some looking around (on google earth, and street view) we luckily tracked down this amazing park overlooking the water and mountains. I did a location scout the day before and determined when best to film (after the sun dipped behind the trees). It only gave us an hour and a half of filming before it got too dark, but we got it! I was really pleased how this turned out. I think the song is beautiful and I think the video is too. Shot on #fx3 and #roninrs2 - 30fps slowed 80% to 24fps
