The Savannah Bananas. While major-league games are getting longer and slower, frustrating even devoted fans – @thesavbananas, a team from Georgia, which normally plays in a collegiate summer league, spent the past the better part of the summer months barnstorming the country for a series of exhibition games, testing a radical new version of the sport: #BananaBall. For some viewers, they’re the most watchable team in baseball. When the Bananas aren’t dancing, they’re wearing stilts, running around the field to the plate like Captain Jack Sparrow or singing karaoke on the field. “Banana Ball” moves at breakneck pace. There are no bunts, no visits to the mound and a two-hour time limit. If someone in the stands catches a foul ball, the batter is out. And walks? The otherwise mundane play continues until every fielder — even outfielders — touches the ball. In early May, video extraordinaire @markpottslat, writer David Wharton and I traveled to Kansas City for one of the last stops on the Banana’s Barnstorm tour – for a match up against the @kc_monarchs. Read David’s series and watch Mark’s video at link in bio. Shout out to @kelvinkuo for the trust and the edit. (📷: @latimes / @latimesphotos)
