Last week, a 10-year-old child had to travel from Ohio to Indiana to access legal abortion care. In the same week, MAC received calls on behalf of two different 11-year-olds needing abortion care in the central Midwest. Because of the recent SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, we will see more young people have to navigate more trauma and barriers to abortion access. The reality is that children need reproductive health care every day in this country, including abortion care. With new expansive abortion bans, more and more will need to travel hundred of miles for this essential care. This puts both pregnant children and their abortion provider at risk when both should be fully protected in accessing and providing abortions. Instead, they are being investigated by right wing legislators and targeted by their violent supporters. MAC assists people of ALL ages in accessing abortion care in this country but this care cannot happen unless our providers are free from state and civilian violence.
