If you live in South London, chances are high you might have seen one of Matt’s murals for @gourmandizing, a project he started over a decade ago celebrating London’s diverse, culturally rich immigrant communities through its food. Over the years I have watched him dedicate his nighttime and weekend hours to painting them in Brixton, Peckham, Bermondsey, Honor Oak, London Bridge, Greenwich, Camberwell, New Cross, Forest Hill, the list goes on — collaborating with the communities of people in those neighbourhoods to paint the food that binds them. So to see him take the project Stateside working with the city of Norfolk, Virginia and collaborating with the Governor School of Arts to create this epic wall in addition to an exhibition and food experience (all a block away from the museum we got married in!) is a beautiful thing.
