LIFE UPDATE MOMENT: after 14 amazing years of a career in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) werk in higher education a kween has decided to hang up her multiple hats within student affairs and higher education administration to explore doing DEI werk in a different industry (yas, hunny she still has a 9 to 5) but I’ve decided to allow myself the adventure of exploring the DEI werk I am truly passionate about in a different way I share this update because there were some parts of me that felt guilty about this pivot ... my most recent role as the Assistant Director of an amazing university LGBTQ+ Center was my dream job for several years and I’m forever grateful to have brought to life my vision for that role, but dreams change. The pause I experienced during this pandemic allowed me an opportunity to reassess and re-envision what working full-time could look like for me ... I am still dedicated to the werk but I have newfound boundaries when it comes to my “work-life balance” in the end I chose a new pathway that allows me the opportunity to work remotely and it’s been a blessing ... yes, there are some aspects of my previous job that I miss (my students, my colleagues, blasting show-tunes in my office, my familiarity with navigating the university system) .. and some that I do not miss (that’s another convo, gurl) but overall this career pivot has been a breath of fresh air that I have been longing for, I’m happy, I’m eager to explore DEI werk in different industry, and I’m excited to explore the freedoms that comes with working remotely so cheers to dreams changing, cheers to chasing after those scary and seemly-risky career pivots, cheers to a balance that fits your current needs, cheers to choosing your peace 💜 📸 photo/video dump of those random and lovely NYU moments
