Deep core muscles and abs are two different muscle groups. For a healthy body and good posture having just a six-pack is not enough, because the superficial muscles only affect appearance and forward flexion of the torso.
True stability, spinal protection, and proper pressure distribution within the abdomen come from the deep core muscles: the diaphragm, transverse abdominis, and multifidus muscles. They act like an internal corset. Without their engagement, the body compensates with other muscles, which can lead to back pain and poor posture.
I’ve put together a core workout that works for any level. It takes 15–20 minutes, but that’s enough to make your body feel more engaged. Don’t forget to work both sides!
