At this point in time, Zion might be the National Park in which I have spent the most time. I spent this whole past winter living only ten minutes from the front gate. I certainly don’t want to say in that time I got bored with it, but after so many times even the Angels Landing hike loses its thrill. I’m not particularly one who is designed to remain in one spot for very long. Even if I the place was growing stale, every time I chose to venture in, there were incredible surprises always waiting to be found and experienced. With such a long period of easy access to this place, I did take the opportunities to discover the more nuanced wonders and hidden treasures buried within the park. Places that still feel like true wilderness. I had the pleasure of experiencing Zion in different seasons and ever-changing conditions. From the fleeting remnants of autumn to the blossoming of spring, it was a gradient of natural enchantment. Its roads set the backdrops for some of my favorite and most memorable motorcycle treks. Its vistas gave way to the most majestic sunsets I’ve had the privilege of sharing with friends. As a lover of words, I appreciate coming across sights and sensations that are hard to find the right terms and expressions for. Zion challenges me to search designation that does justice for the wonder it exudes. It’s a juxtaposition of nature. It’s a lush paradise where you would not expect to find one. It is an epic landscape that takes the eyes and senses on an adventure. You don’t even need to venture too incredibly far off the beaten path and high up into the cliffs to stumble across a vista that isn’t marked on any map. The whole land is laced with adventure and beauty that meets directly with the soul of every explorer that enters through its gates. I do think aptly so, it could be called a heaven on earth.
