Now DAHLING, you know this kween loves her some staghorn ferns so obvi had to bring this beauty, Ms. Platycerium alcicorne, to tha botanical stage 💃🏽🌿
In the wild these epiphytic beauties can grow to massive sizes on the trunks and branches of trees, even rocks. Causing no damage or harm to their hosts, these kweens acquire all the water and nutrients that they need from the air, fallen plant debris or other bits and pieces of organic matter
Now let’s get into tha care of these kinds of kweens:
☀️ I’ve always kept my staghorn kweens in very bright, filtered light having learned that direct sunlight could burn their lush green leaves (the antler fronds)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💧 When it comes to watering I tend to either let the entire plant soak in my sink until saturated or let her sit in the shower for a bit with room-temp water for a couple of minutes. I’ve found it important to let her brown plate-like set of leaves (the shield fronds) soak completely as their function is to protect the plant roots, and take up water and nutrients ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
💨 While my go to watering schedule varies for this kween ... I do a weight test to gauge when she needs to be watered. If she feels light then she needs water, if she feels heavy then she still has water to soak up before I water her again .. I know she enjoys high humidity. So a bright bathroom and/or daily misting focusing on the underside of the antler fronds and the shield fronds is tha mewd for this these kweens
