“The central theme is the masking of the action of the reaper: that is, the reapers behave as if the operation they do was not their harvest, but a goat hunt. An old farmer acts like a goat: two bunches of ears held between the lips, one goatskin tied to the back, sickles grasped at head height to give the image of the horns, eyes wide open hunted animal,” explains anthropologist Ernesto De Martino.
