This is Marina, my mother, & today is her birthday. Most of you don’t know this but Marina suffers from the horrible & unfair illness we know as dementia. For those of you who have no clue what it’s like to have this illness in your life, I really hope you never have to. Nothing is as it was before she got sick, so I do my best to treasure not only the lifelong memories we’ve shared but also to try and do my best to treasure the moments now in this new chapter. I’ll be honest and say that it’s not always so simple to do that, and certain days are huge challenges, days where I feel so sad and angry all at once.. but I do my best, for her.
