Late summer borders can be tricky, but plan carefully and your garden can look just as good now as it did in June - the key is successional planting - like a relay race where early summer plants hand the baton over to the later. This was shot yesterday - the garden is on sand so we planted accordingly and despite the drought I think it’s looking as good now as it did in early summer. Early summer plants in this garden include: Nepeta, Salvia, Geranium, Iris and Geums and late summer is full of grasses, Sedum, Phlox & Echinacea. Something about the faded tones of late summer seems so dreamy - don’t you think?
