When you are chasing specific peaks lists, sometimes you end up in some places that make you scratch your head. In this instance, I found myself driving 5 miles into Southern Idaho to knock off a 7,760 foot peak known as Samaria Mountain (Wood Benchmark). Somehow this one ended up as one of the 115 peaks on the Great Basin Peak List. The Samaria Mountains appear to be low angled rolling hills that were burned up in 2013. There was still some beauty to be found with long range views, fossils, and some new growth aspens. Compared to the rest of the list, It’s a very long way out of the way to check this one off. Thankfully it was only an hour away from where I was on this last trip.
