’Twas the night before gameday, and all through Purdue, Not a student was sleeping; they had too much to do. The jerseys were hung in the lockers with care, In hopes that a victory soon would be there. The Boilermakers rested all snug in their beds, While visions of touchdowns danced in their heads. And out in the quads—Cary and Windsor, too— The buzz of excitement grew louder and grew. Out on Slayter Hill, where John Purdue lay, The spirit of Purdue looked down on the fray. The moon shined bright on the Bell Tower’s face, Casting long shadows all over the place. When out by Ross-Ade there arose such a cheer, I sprang from my room to see what was near. Away to the stadium, I flew like a flash, Past the WALC with its books and its academic stash. The stands, they were gleaming under stadium lights, Preparing for what would be one of those nights.
