Imagine you’re looking at an amazing animal, almost prehistoric, and wondering if this beautiful critter will survive mass species extinction? I sometimes try to explain to people how lucky it is to see one of these critically endangered animals alive and doing well in its natural environment. When we may be some of the last people to witness this, we should really soak up that moment. Being able to photograph them like this makes me feel so lucky. On the Ningaloo we have managed to (so far) keep them safe from further destruction. But can we continue to save them from all the threats they face in this changing world? The fight for the Ningaloo isn’t over, let’s never give up spreading the love for this amazing place and stopping those who seek to destroy it.
This animal incase you’re wondering is a White Spotted Wedgefish (Rhynchobatus australiae). The last photograph is a juvenile.
