The complexities of identity can often lead us on journeys of self-discovery. We are not just our cultural backgrounds, demographic identities and physiological selves. Hearst counsel David Brioso's journey (@lilbitofluck) led him to balance these different aspects of his identity, connecting deeper with himself and with those around him. Read more of his story below, and share your #YoSoy story in the comments. "#YoSoy the son of immigrants from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. While my parents’ culture was prevalent growing up, I began to explore my identity in college by studying U.S. Latino history, joining a Latino fraternity and exploring food and music. Making these connections helped me figure out who I was, as I wasn’t always sure where I belonged growing up in Buffalo. Today, I recognize that I am a classic second generation American, tied to the ethnic roots of my family by choice and comfort more than by life experiences. I don’t feel like I fit neatly into any particular ‘box,’ but I have never been freer or happier to share with anyone who asks that I am proud to be Latino. The Latino world that I know is a universe unto itself, and I represent a side that isn’t often seen. I hope to represent it well." #HispanicHeritageMonth #HearstRISE
