@elsa.explores wanted to be as light as possible in one session IE- her reference photo was a pale blonde/rose gold image much like the result we got to. That being said...she understood I would only be able to lighten that fresh direct dye (fresh because she touched it up herself a few weeks ago) to the best of my ability while maintaining the integrity of her hair and any number of alternatives may occur...like a brighter color melt, just touching up her roots as the pigment fades, multiple shades to blend/blur, etc. Her expectations as a client and my communication as a stylist are rad like that 🙌🏼 HOWEVER- I was able to lift her regrowth with @f18hair White Lightening bleach powder and 10 vol, 5 vol on everything else with the plant based reinforcement...after I tested out a few other lifting methods and determining that was my most effective route. I wasn’t able to FULLY remove the pigment but we got pretty close and her hair felt great (sloooow and loooow). Then I went with the rapid toner in BLUSH roots to ends to give that translucent vibe versus a more opaque finish of a direct dye and DAMN if we didn’t pretty much nail her reference photo!! What I didn’t do from the start though, is ever promise her (or myself) that we’d get there. I honestly didn’t even know or think we would. The hair’s the boss sometimes. I will only do what it’ll let me do. I can formulate my ass off, use creative placements, use all the additives in the world but sometimes if that pigment isn’t budging all you can do is...wait it out and pivot your plan. I pivoted my ass off and prevailed!
