There’s been lots of change and growth here, so checking in to say hi and ramble on a little about change itself. Change is natural. Everything natural changes, our bodies, our minds, our routines, our homes, our relationships. The seasons change. The natural world is always changing. I used to hate change myself until I realised everything I admired always changed and adapted, and the things I don’t (like plastics) didn’t. Story stuff is meant to change - made with an understanding that every item of clothing is volatile and ready to create a unique imprint. It’s a hard thing to explain sometimes - people aren’t used to buying clothes that are made totally naturally and have a different smell or texture. We do our best to make ourselves understood, but also know that not everyone is going to read a stack of essays before buying a hat. I never liked the term ‘funky’ when it meant ‘cool’ or ‘hip’ - but its a word I hear used a lot now around food and drink. People try a natural wine with an unusual note and say it’s ‘funky’, or a fermented stink in coffee (funky) or complex sourness to a sweet rare plum (funky). Our stuff is funky too in that way - it presents a flavour, look and feel that may be weird, but is a result of unusual production. I don’t really know where I’m going with this entirely, but I’ve been thinking about this kind of stuff a lot recently with the launch of Story mfg. ROOTS because its sort of designed to lay bare the wear and funkiness. I’ve been wearing a few early protos over the summer and, like all our stuff, it all looks better (to me) worn in with stories. The first and second photo are the same shirt - first worn in, the second brand new and ready to go. These shirts went to my beautiful sisters wedding, got thrown up on by my son, came to the fanciest meal I had in my life, and worked hard while I did. I love them, I love Story mfg and I love that you guys get it, thank you.
