Today we're taking a @coolhunting tour of architect and Airbnb Host Mark Bearak @dtls.architecture's Hudson Pool House. When designing his home he decided to draw from the Case Study Movement—a popular architectural trend in California from the 1940s-60s—and create a fictitious persona to guide his vision and execution.
Bearak wanted to strike the balance between beautiful and livable, something that can be difficult with glass houses: “They are incredibly special to visit... but they are all victims of their own simplicity. They weren’t always livable spaces. It’s really tough to think about how you can make a house that’s all glass but still have creature comforts that make up a home."
How did it end up on Airbnb? "After the first year, we realized that it’s a house and a house needs to be lived in. We were only using it two days a month. We realized we could keep better tabs on how the house was running if people were using it.”
