The place where I chose to spend a decade of my adulthood. My home. My best friends’ home. Hearts are heavy across the nation as we all feel the hurt of the homes, lives, livelihoods, and memories that were instantly swept away in raging embers. It still doesn’t feel real and surely doesn’t feel right. Navigating these emotions is disorienting. And figuring out how to help is overwhelming. I’ve compiled a list of very direct and helpful ways to give, even if you’re on the other side of the world. Each of these are linked in my linktree in my bio. The first listed is one of the animal rescues I’ve volunteered with for years. I’ve spent so much time in and out of the founder’s home getting dogs and supplies. We’ve spent countless hours talking and crying together about how to save more animals. She has helped me turn my house into a vet office and guided me through how to save lives of sick critters. So many animals sought refuge in her safe haven of a home as they evaded euthanasia and awaited their forever homes. While the dogs’ lives were all saved, their safe space was not. The founder’s home and rescue headquarters full of dog supplies is gone. Dog rescues rely on fosters. Fosters have also lost their homes or have been displaced. The dogs now have nowhere to go. While monetary donations are essential during this unimaginable time, local rescues also rely solely on fosters. If you have the room in your heart and your home to provide comfort to a critter, please fill out a foster application! Please share and let me know in the comments if I’m missing any good links!
