Glass Mountain (11,160) is an overlooked mountain that lies between the Sierras and White Mountains. This small volcanic range rises over 11,000 feet and is probably best known as the backdrop for those soaking in the hot springs near Mammoth. There wasn’t another soul in the area! The mountain is covered in obsidian rock and it kept reminding me of Game of Thrones when Jon Snow was looking to harvest dragon glass. There is a ton of it here! This had been on both mine and my son’s radar for a couple years but it kept getting put on the back burner. I’ve passed it so many times but was saving it to do with him. The trail climbs steeply, 1,900 feet in 1.5 miles up sandy slopes. The views of the Sierras, Whites, Lake Crowley, and Mono Lake are awesome! I’ll be back for the range traverse!
