I’ll never forget biking the Boston Marathon the night before the official race on a Hubway bike in 2012. I remember thinking “running this distance is totally impossible for me”. Well, it’s not impossible! Finally ran my first marathon last weekend at the LA Marathon. I think that’s what makes this kind of thing “fun”, you get to prove yourself wrong, and it makes you question what other things you can do if you apply yourself. My time was nothing special, and my race didn’t go super well, but I got to enjoy the whole thing, even when I started cramping at mile 22 and stopped to stretch a bunch of times before the finish. I was very lucky to have friends and family there with me on the course racing and supporting to make it feel even more special. I’ll never be a great marathoner but I have to admit it was a lot more fun than I had predicted.
