Launched in 1977, the twin Voyager probes are NASA’s longest-operating mission, the only spacecraft ever to explore interstellar space–and they're still going! 45 years on, we're in daily contact with both Voyager 1 and 2, and they continue to provide us with observations of the farthest reaches of space.
In August 1981, Voyager 2 sped past Saturn. Three Voyager 2 images, taken through ultraviolet, violet and green filters, were combined to make this false-color image. See true-color views of Saturn and all the planets Voyager explored at the link in our bio, solarsystem.nasa.gov
