They say that bad habits break you if you don’t break them. There’s a few bad habits I’m still trying to break, especially on the motorcycle.
Target fixation is one of such toxic habits. I look down a lot, focusing too heavily on the road beneath. That’s not good, because they say you tend to go where you set your gaze.
Most people that ride say you need to keep your head up, set your sights down the road and that’s where you’ll go.
But what do you do when you come up on those blind curves?
Those are the ones I don’t like.
You’re supposed look beyond them, lean into them, pick a heading, stick to it, and roll your throttle through it. I’m not good at that. I’m not the best at looking beyond. My mind tricks me into thinking that the road beneath deserves more attention than the road ahead of me. But the road beneath is more dangerous if you choose not to see what is coming. Even if you can’t see, you have to pick a heading and stick to it.
I’m not good at looking beyond, but I’m working on it.
