This month I got to visit the fourth spot to reopen its doors, the Islay home of Johnnie Walker; Caol Ila distillery. Caol Ila is truly something special. Islay is known around the world for its whisky and the visitor experience not only tells the story of the Caol Ila brand but also the major role whisky plays in the island’s history. Boasting panoramic vistas of the neighbouring island of Jura and its iconic Paps, the distillery’s brand new bar area offers one of the most incredible views in the world of whisky. The liquid from here provides the smoky notes of Johnnie Walker Black label, which is then complimented by those from the other three corners. You can fly direct from Glasgow airport or take the ferry from the Kennacraig Port which will take around 2 hours. This unique destination not only offers great whisky but you’ll experience Islay's huge open skies, Hebridean landscape and vibrant seascape. Cycle, trek or walk around the island taking in the views. Play 18 holes on the Links golf course at The Machrie.
