20 years just like that ... I was in Year 7 when 1Xtra was launched as a radio station. I had no idea that is where I wanted to work but after graduating I done countless amounts of free internships, free work experience, free shadowing, free volunteering. I made demos and posted them in peoples letterboxes. I was resilient in trying to land a show there. I’m grateful that I was able to meet so many people, and build up so many memories that I still think about to this day. It’s part of the cultural fabric in the U.K. If it wasn’t for this radio station existing I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to dream, achieve, learn and grow.
