Hello friends!! It’s been a while since I’ve done an introduction. So as I begin another trip around the sun I figured there is no better time than now.
I am Dr. Jenny Tzu-Mei Wang. Taiwanese American. Child of immigrants. Clinical psychologist. Mother of 2. This platform grew out of a desire to amplify the mental health needs and stories of Asian diaspora. Little did I know that in 3 years this community would grow to be a space that supported each of us through some of the most difficult seasons of the pandemic. As much as y’all have shared that this work has impacted you, I have also received so much from this community. You all give me strength, courage and hope for the future. Thanks to each of you I am still here allowing who I am to shine - in all the good, complex, and messy ways. Vulnerability in safety will lead our community towards healing.
In recent months, I have been asked “what’s next” for my work and this platform. I will be 100% honest that the answer is I’m not sure. But I also wonder if the compulsion to figure out “what’s next” is driven by the capitalistic systems and dehumanization of people of color to be instruments of competency and production versus organic and evolving creation drivers.
So this new year, I am allowing myself to release from proving my competence and achievement, and instead, allowing myself to be generative and creation focused. Creating a reality for myself and my community that meets our needs, makes us feel seen and heard, and truly honoring who we are. I have ideas that I am marinating, but for now I am being still and listening to where the sparks in my life can be felt. In the busyness, we may struggle to be attuned to those sparks in our lives that let us know what COULD BE NEXT for us.
So share with us: What are some sparks that you are noticing in your life? What is giving you excitement in this season? What is your soul yearning to create in this world?
Today is my birthday and I am asking you wherever you are to meet yourself and others with kindness today. In whatever shape or form that kindness looks like for you. Thank you for walking alongside me another year. 🌟
