Piper Laurie walked right up to the line of camp and scenery-chewing in her role as religious zealot Margaret White in Carrie (1976) and just so slightly put her big toe over it... But not too far. “I laughed a lot between takes. I thought I was hilarious!” Please remember that at the time it was unheard of for a relatively low-budget teen horror movie to even be considered for Academy Award nods, but Sissy Spacek & Piper Laurie were both nominated. I was fortunate enough to have met her TWICE - thank you @nancyallen624 - sitting just a few seats down from her at the charity 40th anniversary screening of Carrie and once at a less-than-stellar performance of Carrie The Musical (she, like myself, was not amused lol) Rest in peace, Piper Laurie.
