Still trying to process the loss of my dear, dear friend from our hometown of Petersburg, VA. Her name is Marva Hicks and she transitioned last week to a better place than here. She was a giant in my eyes. When I had to leave college unexpectedly, & decided to move to NY and pursue acting, I had no idea where or how to start. She came over to our family home, sat down @ our kitchen table and walked me through how to create a résumé, an 8 x 10 headshot of myself and all of the pitfalls, pros and cons of moving to New York and pursuing an acting career. Marva was an industry pro, who worked in tv, Broadway, radio and virtually every medium. We inspired & encouraged each other through these many years. This photo was taken the last time I saw her and her husband, Akwasi, in 2020 when she came backstage after a performance of A SOLDIER’S PLAY on Broadway 🎭. She taught me that Broadway, a career in the arts & dreams were possible. All I had to do was follow her lead! You can Rest In Peace now my friend. You are missed, loved & eternally celebrated & remembered!
