It has been one of my most cherished companions throughout this very challenging year. It’s basically an open diary about sex and love addiction, recovery, healing generational trauma, and the difficulties of maintaining healthy relationships while living as a touring musician... narrated by his fiancé, interwoven with audio recordings from therapy sessions (with @eckharttolle because who else would your therapist be if you are Kendrick Lamar lol). What a radically brave, brutally honest artistic gesture. I totally get the Jesus imagery, because I feel like with this record Kendrick has really splayed himself open and made of himself an offering in a truly Christ-like ‘eat of my flesh’ kind of way. It inspires me to be more fearlessly honest and uncompromisingly real, in my art and in my life.
