April 5th-August 22nd
I couldn’t believe how well I slept considering it was Canada day. We packed up just our food and what we needed for the day and left camp set up. My pack felt pretty light. It was a really great hike that morning. For the most part it seemed like just a normal day. Every time I pressed on the Canada icon and the mileage number kept getting lower it still didn’t feel real yet. About a half mile out, I squealed...”Nugget! We’ve walked to Canada!” Not too long after I saw the big welcome to Canada sign and around the corner was the iconic Northern Terminus Monument. We hung out for a couple hours, eating lunch, having photo shoots, drinking a 2L of @fanta, and chatting and cheering as hikers came in. It still was weird, like I was here and it was cool but I wasn’t over the top excited or emotional or anything cause maybe it just didn’t feel real. After we finished hanging out we made the long climb back up which was super fun with 2L of carbonation in my stomach but at least my pack was 4 1/2lbs lighter. I think I stopped to pee at least 4 times. The weather was being wild. The wind was crazy and I could hear thunder in the distance and dark cloud were everywhere. I would stop to see where they were moving to but it seemed like they were just swirling everywhere. By the time I got back to our stuff, the weather seemed to have chilled a bit but my tent was definitely completely collapsed. After setting my stuff back up I crawled inside and ate dinner. My favorite thing about storms is that it makes for good sunrises/sunsets and tonight the clouds were so pink. When Nugget and Colin got back we hung out for an hour before crashing for the night. As I drifted off to sleep I thought about how this was my last night on the PCT and my last night sleeping in my cozy little tent for a while. The thoughts didn’t well up much emotion but rather just sat with me as I tried to soak in every last bit...the last color of the sunset, the stars so clear out the tent door, the silhouette of the mountains, and the slight breeze blowing over me.
