The stereotypical image of a small Umbrian village might feature shy country folk with a tendency to over-pronounce the letter βdβ, or groups of OAPs shuffling in and out of the local community center. While the geography and demographics of Collepino may tick all the boxes for just such a village, it is something of an exception. Here, if you filter out the voices of the tourists visiting Monte Subasio and the stomp-stomp of the trekking boots, you can hear the stories of those who looked at this tiny jumble of houses and saw in them the possibility for a different kind of life.
