my #womancrush is our beautiful sister 33 year old Dede Ricks. our sister was discovered unresponsive with gunshot wounds to her chest and back, and was pronounced dead at the scene. the taking of Dede’s life is the second violent murder of a Black trans woman in Detroit in the span of a month. very little information is known about the life of our Dede, but what is known is that she was a beautiful black woman, who did not deserve this fate, or the treatment, or misgendering and hate that she received, let alone death. of course as we know like many other U.S. states, michigan is also undergoing major battles right now over trans rights and protections, the lack of urgency to put those protections in order shows what the reality will continue to look like for those who fall between the cracks of an already unjust system. this is the 2nd black trans woman to be murdered in just 3 weeks, in detroit, THAT we know of. Dede, hey queen, hey sis, i lové you, we lové you, we will never forget you.
