If you’re chasing cherry blossoms in Japan, don’t sleep on Shiudeyama. Located in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture, this mountain overlooks the Seto Inland Sea with about 1,000 cherry trees lining the ridge. The view of the islands framed by sakura is easily one of the most beautiful scenes in Japan. What makes Shiudeyama extra special is how peaceful it feels compared to famous sakura spots. During cherry blossom season, cars driving to the summit require parking reservations after 8 AM, which naturally limits the crowds. I didn’t have a reservation, so I arrived before sunrise. I also came a little early in the bloom season, with the sakura at about 80%, but the view was still incredible as the sun rose over the Seto Inland Sea. Shiudeyama was once the site of Shiude Castle during the Sengoku period, and today the castle ruins sit near the summit park where visitors come for the panoramic views. 🌸 Shiudeyama Cherry Blossom Guide 📍 Shiudeyama Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture ⏰ Best bloom timing Late March to early April (varies each year) 🚗 Parking reservations Cars driving to the summit after 8 AM require advance reservations during cherry blossom season.
