💛Protect disabled bodies 💛 a conversation I would like to have with you guys about being mindful and sensitive about the words we use, the narratives we spread and the way we treat disabled individuals online and in person. Before I begin, I would like to say that my intention is not to speak on behalf for anyone. These are my own thoughts and opinions about this subject matter as a disabled individual myself but I know not everyone will agree and that’s okay. One important note is that not all disabled individuals think alike, or experience the same things. Just like abled bodied individuals, disabled individuals have different backgrounds, weaknesses/strengths, skills, insecurities, etc. We experience life differently and therefore have our own feelings and opinions. My story is one that I’ve talked about before here on my Instagram and in past interviews so if anyone is interested in reading about it, just go through my feed and you’ll surely find it. With all of that out of the way, I wanted to hop on here and chat about some things that have been weighing heavy on my mind regarding some incidents that I’ve seen play out online that involved insensitive jokes about individuals with disabilities or health issues and unfair discrimination against disabled individuals in bars. Caption was too long to fit here so please check below in the comments for the rest 💛
