SIX YEARS AGO I was in a pet store buying dog food in a suburb of LA. I was looking at the cashier at the checkout thinking this is literally the coolest kid ever — latex, eyeliner, bubblegum. I told her she could be a movie star. Driving around LA playing each other records, we talked about finding the parameters of our bodies, being misunderstood, reclamation of punk as contemporary, the throes of adolescence. Many years later, the film is happening, no big crew, just my core team, run and gun and thematically, it’s just like the stuff I made when I was starting out as a teen. Costumed entirely by her. Talent doesn’t even begin to cover it. She is magic. 100% real kids doing 100% real punk shit.
