everyone always wants a quick answer to the question: what 🌍 is 🌍 sustainable? there are many answers, depending on your criteria. fact: the fashion industry will never be 100% sustainable. also, it’s impossible to do everything right. this @zalando Academy, my kick-off event this @cphfw, i’ve learned and talked about materials. an eye-opener, 70% of the emission of a garment is determined by the fabric of that piece. 70%! that’s a lot. when you realize this, i think it really motivates to choose better. although, it’s still very very complicated.
but don’t let these scary numbers get you down! let’s talk about to start making better choices. for example, start by picking your focus point out of the wide range of elements that make a garment more sustainable (see slider). how to choose? sit down, and think about what matters to YOU.
for me, my biggest focus point is durability: how long will an item last in (my) life? from this point on, i try to only buy clothes and accessories that i hope / think will be in my wardrobe forever, preferably vintage. and if a fabric isn’t for example natural when buying it vintage, like polyester, at least i’m giving it a second life (continue reading in comments! :) 👇🏼)
