This is not a post about politicians or gun control laws. If you are triggered to focus on gun control or politicians who aren’t doing enough to change these policies when you turn on the news and hear of the latest school shooting, you are being distracted by some real issues which are destroying our society. Top of the list is the mental health crisis.
The top question (though a very important question for sure) should not be HOW a 14 year old possessed a gun to commit his act of violence, but WHY a 14 year old would want to commit such an act? Does he feel isolated? Does he feel unseen? Does he feel loved? Does he feel condemned? Does he feel bullied? Does he feel out of control of his circumstances? Does he feel anxious? Does he feel depressed? Does he have a support system to help him navigate this ever changing stressful world we live in?
Take your anger and passion for innocent lives being lost to these tragic events and place the energy where it should be, on the growing number of hurting people.... Your own children, your own family, your neighbor, your friends, your community groups, etc.
Being indignant on either side of gun control policies and putting hope in politicians that could give 2 craps about you as an individual is not the way we fix this problem.
Look inward for a short moment and then don’t look too far and wide to find the person who is probably already sitting right in front of you who needs a high dose of kindness and humanity.
Much love,
Angie ❤️
