Early March we went to Dallas to shoot a fashion story... there isn’t much relation with this story and politics. But the two girls in Dallas in the pictures taught me a lot that I really should have known with better self initiated research. The fact we were in Texas talking about the feelings that these teens we were shooting were articulating about Texas’s anti “child abuse laws” (please look into this legislation more if you are not familiar it is shocking and I do not want to misquote)
I’ll admit here that that trip was when I learned about anti-trans legislation that was just passed several weeks prior. Ie this “child abuse” law. Repugnant.
Little did I realize when we were there, that soon, a that a lot more was going to happen—Uvalde, witch is still beyond heartbreaking, and a pain that I cannot speak to. And now, in about a month, indicative of the news today, an abortion outlaw. Texas may be filled with populace that are responsible for voting for this kind of legislation but it is also filled with kids that are liberal, cultured, intuitive. Teens that listen to Cocteau Twins, and give each other stick and pokes, and apply for MFAs (a very similar demographic to the folks that follow me on here) will not be able to get abortions in Texas. Brilliant quirky powerful girls who won’t have a choice. It’s time to organize and get mad.
