// Some of us travel to find home.
It’s been a relative while since I’ve traveled abroad. When COVID cancelled my gig to photograph a Viking wedding near Oslo (a traditional ceremony with sheep’s blood and everything!!) I was disappointed beyond belief. I thought — when will I ever find another damn excuse to visit Norway???
3 years later, I look back at 24 yr old self and realize — umm excuse me b, but I can make my OWN excuse! Or, why do I even need an excuse at all?? I’ve spent SO long waiting for a photography work opportunity or “the right timing” to justify traveling. Because as a workaholic, traveling NOT for work feels like an impractical overindulgence.
Ok but fuck that. I’ve been grinding to save up for travel, and I don’t need another reason to use what savings I worked so hard for. Without the self-imposed need for an excuse, I’m going to visit not just Norway, but also Croatia, Italy, Turkey, Morocco, Romania, Poland, and all the other countries in Europe I’ve eyed for so long. Screw my bank account. 🤪
Now I don’t know how not to make this sound like some “Eat Pray Love” BS, but traveling teaches me more about myself every day than the “right timing” ever could. And it’s about time.
