We may not officially celebrate Thanksgiving in this country and I certainly don’t believe thanks should only be expressed on one designated day a year, just as the expression of love should not be reserved just for Valentine’s Day. But I do love the concept of stopping to reflect on what we are grateful for and Thanksgiving offers a reminder of how important it is to do this. So, I have done exactly that. I’ve stopped to think. And it turns out, I am hugely thankful for this year. As a whole! As a small, independent business that suffered the wrath of the Covid lockdowns, almost to a catastrophic degree, this year has reminded me of why I started this in the first place and has deepened the passion I have for the work I do and the people I do it for, and with. From tumbleweed to hurricane force – weddings all but disappeared for a year and half and then came thundering back at a pace few of us thought possible! We have experienced the busiest, most chaotic year of weddings ever seen, and I don’t pretend it has been easy, but it has been EPIC! There have been challenges – lack of personal time being the hardest. We missed out on birthdays, celebrations, and important events in our own lives, to ensure the celebrations of our clients were as perfect as possible. But the support, understanding and encouragement shown by family, friends, and colleagues has spurred us on and helped us through. We could not have achieved even half of what we have manged this year if it wasn’t for our ever-loving network of cheerleaders and for them, I will be forever thankful. But this year has also shown us our limits and whilst it can be scary coming so close to breaking point, I am so grateful that I can now set realistic goals, and boundaries, to ensure I succeed in maintaining a thriving, evolving business, but also enjoy a more balanced lifestyle. My business has opened doors to new possibilities and a lifestyle I didn’t think was possible, and as I reflect on how grateful I am for that, I am incredibly excited to see where it takes me next.
