My relationship with the city of Tulum in Mexico initially began 15 years ago. Since that time Tulum has been my go to and an easy escape from NYC for a moment of peace. Over the years relationships were built that allowed my mind to open up to the possibilities of what could be done there with my resources, in contrast to what I could do in NYC. I was over the “Hustle” that we as artist all juggle. Regardless of my growth the ratio stayed the same. In 2016 I had what you could call a vision. It was a plan to position myself to be free in my creative process. Along with a friend/partner in Mexico, my brothers and I bought land and decided to design and build. The vision in my perspective was simple. Build a home and build a creative compound. A place where what you imagined you could make. Create a place for other artists to come to and explore their ideas. My version of a residency. Since my background is design the endeavor, although great, was not daunting. My brothers vision was an athletic training facility. VISION: the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom. We moved in silence over these years and we where just about complete, ready to open it up and share it with others when all this happened. I recall a scripture from the Bible. Proverbs 16:9 “A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” I am at peace, I will rebuild.
