"Gold Falls” at Desert X AlUla 2022, speaks to cycles of climate change and globalism. The title invokes the different economic standards of gold, black gold (oil) and water all of which have played a role in shaping the desert oasis of Alula. Like a mirage the cascading tapestried surface of yellow plastic unfolds across the rock in both mimicry and dissonance. Serge Attukwei Clottey’s golden yellow outpouring upon the rockfaces of AlUla is simultaneously an image of abundance and lack within an environment which is simultaneously bereft and resplendent.
