There’s truly nothing like visiting England in the Spring — and for me, as a landscaper, it was a deeply inspiring experience. The air was warm with anticipation, the gardens alive with new color, and the trees bursting into bloom. It’s such an electric, hopeful time of year — a seasonal turning point that felt both familiar and thrillingly new.
Throughout my visit to London and the Cotswolds, I had the chance to explore some extraordinary gardens that stirred memories of home while offering fresh inspiration. One unforgettable afternoon was spent at the Cotswolds home of Paul Bangay and his partner Barry. It was such a treat to stop in for tea, surrounded by friends and the exquisite thoughtfulness of Paul’s garden design. You can feel the intention and artistry in every path and planting — especially in spring, when everything is at its most alive. @paulbangay @barry_mcneill
We were also graciously hosted by Jorge and David, the talented duo behind @Brownrigguk, the stunning antique store in Tetbury. Their English country manor is a masterpiece — meticulously restored and lovingly infused with their own aesthetic sensibilities. Spending time there felt like stepping into a living story of English design and hospitality.
Everywhere I went, I was struck by the deep reverence for landscape and garden design in England. It’s not just about beauty — it’s about stewardship, history, and an emotional connection to the land. That spirit is palpable.
Another highlight was staying on the breathtaking grounds of Daylesford Farm, where we spent a few days in a beautifully restored two-bedroom cottage. The entire estate, a testament to Lady Bamford’s vision and dedication, radiates a sense of purpose and harmony with nature. Her commitment — and the many thoughtful people supporting her work — was both humbling and deeply encouraging. @daylesfordfarm @carolebamford
I returned home reminded of why I love what I do. To care for the earth, to design spaces that stir the soul — it’s a privilege. And spring in England reminded me how universal that calling truly is. Thank you Martyn for showing me your love of England, I now understand. @martynbullard
