What makes our coastline so prolific? Two defined seasons. The green season (May–Nov.) brings rain and warm waters that turn the ocean crystal blue. The gold season (Dec.–Apr.) ushers in the Papagayo winds all the way from Europe. These offshore jet winds create a powerful upwelling of nutrient-loaded cold water from the deep sea.
