// Some of us feel home outdoors.
When I lived in my camper van, I was legally homeless, but in reality, the entire outdoors was my home. Also Walmart parking lots, but hey — still outdoors.
I felt such peace watching my dogs play and then disappear into tall dry brush, meandering into whatever random state parks looked cool on Google Maps, sleeping under constellations I used some glitchy astronomy app to identify, roasting excessively seasoned veggies on my tiny portable bbq grill, fishing in Colorado rivers and not caring that I never caught anything. I loved even the mishaps — like when Koa got attacked by a cactus and I had to tweeze 20 thorns out of each of her paws, when my van got stuck in the middle of a riverbed after I hadn’t seen any hint of civilization for 48 hours, when a global pandemic closed all my beloved Planet Fitness showers during a July heat wave in New Mexico, when my van got stuck AGAIN by some sand dunes and four tall Dutch dudes had to help me push it out...
I could go on forever with stories from my #vanlife days, a time when I had no home but also found home ~everywhere~ 🥹, and I would totally buy another van to do it all again! But for now, I am extremely happy to wander another part of the world and be welcomed indoors into the beautifully diverse homes of women around the globe.
🙏🏽 Thank you to all the #SistersAtHome that will soon be kindly hosting me!!! 🏠
